News: Reesing And Rivera Named To Preseason Watch Lists On Monday

Kansas quarterback Todd Reesing was named to the Maxwell Award Watch List, while Jayhawk linebacker Mike Rivera was tabbed to the Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List, it was announced by the Maxwell Football Club on Monday. The Maxwell Award has been presented to the outstanding collegiate football player in America since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell. The Chuck Bednarik Award has been presented since 1995 and is named in honor of Chuck Bednarik, a former University of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Eagle great. Bednarik is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame and the NFL Hall of Fame.

University of New Mexico football fans will get a chance to whet their appetite for the 2008 season this week as the MountainWest Sports Network rebroadcasts nine Lobo football games from the 2006 and 2007 seasons as part of its New Mexico Week coverage. The Mtn. will air six New Mexico football games on Monday and Wednesday, and five games on Saturday.

Six Clemson football players are listed as candidates for two awards announced by the Maxwell Football Club on Monday. Club President Ron Jaworski announced 75 candidates from around the country for the Maxwell and Bednarik Awards, respectively. The Maxwell Award has been presented to the outstanding college football player since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert W. Tiny Maxwell. The Bednarik Award has been presented since 1995 and goes to the top defensive player in college football.

Two University of Illinois players have been named on the 2008 watch lists for major college football awards. Junior cornerback Vontae Davis is one of 10 Big Ten players selected among 75 national candidates for the Chuck Bednarik Award, which is given to the Defensive Player of the Year. Sophomore wide receiver Arrelious Benn is among 10 Big Ten players and 75 players from across the country being considered for the Maxwell Award, which is emblematic of the College Player of the Year.
